2014 Sandefur Christmas Card

We wanted to do something NICE this year – something elegant with a bit of Southern whismy thrown in.  Our friend, neighbor and fab photographer Jennifer Hayslip was definitely the go-to to help us create this.  We wanted to do something a bit more formal this year … tuxedos and nice dresses. Jenn suggested moving the dining room table into the yard and doing a “Christmas Dinner” photo shoot with our magnolia tree as the backdrop. The chandelier was her idea too. Here it is, the 16th annual Sandefur Christmas card photograph:

sandefur1facebookOur Christmas photo card has become a holiday tradition that began when my kids were born and it’s been something we’ve done every year since.  Kim, Wyatt & I really like this year’s card.  Nina doesn’t like the chandelier, ‘No one has a chandelier hanging outside.” That’s the whimsy in the pic, Nina Darling. Regardless, this one is sure to make the ‘top of the pile’ of my mom’s, grandmother’s & mother-in-law’s collection this year.  And trust me, there have been a few years where our card was definitely on the bottom of the pile.  Namely the year we did a Black card with all of us dressed in costume as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince for the “MMP Party” at The SoChi Gallery.  I still think it’s my favorite “outside the Christmas box” card.  Or the year we did a Superhero/Super Christmas card done by Macon illustrator Coz Evan.

We are hopeful this one makes the “Top of the Pile” this year:

If I can impart any wisdom at all about Christmas cards, it’s to have them framed and displayed together somewhere in your home.  After the 3rd year of doing a Christmas photo card, I took them to Frameworks Gallery and had them order enough of the framing material that I could use the same frame for the next 20 years.  So they all look uniform. We have them hung together in the hall that goes into our bedroom so we can enjoy them often.  But the really cool thing about doing this annual photo card is that when displayed together on our “Christmas Card Wall” we can see, at a glance, our children grow up.  Their lives literally flashing before our eyes. That is Super Cool.
